Watch your head this Saturday — rubber discs will be flying through the air of downtown Grand Rapids, from rooftops to alleyways and patios.
Okay, you’re not likely to be in their path, but you can get in on the fun! Local public relations firm Lambert, Edwards & Associates is hosting this brand new event, which puts 18 disc golf holes (well, they’re more baskets, really) around the Heartside and Arena neighborhoods of Grand Rapids. Participants will form five-person teams and hurl from rooftops and along city streets, with a route accessible for everyone. Don’t bring your own discs though — Urban Disco has its own rubber discs made specifically to be safe for local storefronts and homes.
While the event is for the casual and competitive player alike, the winning team will rake in $1,000, with the remaining proceeds going to YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids for youth sports programs. The tournament functions as a scramble, which means only the best throws or best score from your team will count toward your team’s final score, so be sure to partner up with someone good. There are three start times: 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
If you’re a participant, be sure to bring your friends and family along, as they can hang out on the putting green and become a disc golf master while you’re off winning the trophy.
Tickets are $250 for a team or $50 for individuals.
