The Ugly Sweater Run
Calder Plaza, Grand Rapids

Ah, the holidays. That miraculous time of year when the alcohol flows freely, everybody poops tinsel for two weeks, and the whole magical season is all wrapped up in one big, scratchy, hideous sweater. Being that the ugly holiday sweater has become as much a seasonal staple as decking the halls or drunken fist-fights between relatives, it makes sense that whole events should start being coordinated around wearing wool design disasters. Enter the multi-city Ugly Sweater Run, which, now in its third year, is making its Michigan debut at Calder Plaza in Grand Rapids. A charity event that raises funds for Toys For Tots, the three-mile run is particularly distinguished by its free Sam Adams samples, an unlimited supply of hot chocolate, and of course, the plethora of nauseating train-wreck snowmen/kitten/Santa fashion abominations likely to be seen coming from miles away. Runners to your marks – these googly eyed knit reindeer need to fly!
