Ed Heads rejoice. Chicago’s Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials brings its gritty, house party blues sound to Grand Rapids’ west side this month. Featuring the legendary slide playing of Lil' Ed Williams, the Blues Imperials have been creating quintessential Chicago blues for nearly 30 years. Lil' Ed Williams and James "Pookie" Young were schooled in blues guitar by Blues Foundation Hall of Famer J.B. Hutto long before adding guitarist Mike Garrett and drummer Kelly Littleton to the mix. The band’s shows feature everything from riotous dance boogies to slow-burning, soulful ballads — a heady mix that The Chicago Tribune calls “one of the few authentic links to pure Chicago blues." The band, which cut its teeth at small neighborhood clubs in the Windy City, makes a special local stop at Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill on Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. — Reported by Madison Edwards
