It’s entirely possible that Howie Day is an egotistical jerk (further reading: Day, Howie, history of arrests), but it’s hard to deny the role he’s played in putting power pop back on the musical culture map. A frequent presence on the early 2000s indie rock scene, Day has recorded and released three full-length studio albums and nearly a dozen EPs. And let’s not forget the plethora of singles meant to supply a nation of car radio karaoke-singers with a continuous fount of material. What’s more, his work has been known to pop up on TV juggernauts like "Scrubs" and "Grey’s Anatomy," which makes for an undeniably ubiquitous quality to Day’s sound and style. We’re relieved he seems to have put the Bieberian antics on the back-burner for the time being and shifted focus to where it belongs: on the music. Day has been singing a different tune, and we’re more than happy to hum along.
