While soaking up the beats and rhymes of Quincy Matthew Hanley – better known as ScHoolboy Q – it’s not hard to draw the conclusion that Hanley may have been born a decade too late. With rapid West Coast-rapper sensibilities and a maximum dose of dynamite delivery, the Q man (he can’t be a boy forever, can he?) could have fit quite snuggly among West Side elites like Snoop, Tupac and Dre. No doubt these pioneers of the genre are guiding influences on second generation gangsta rappers like ScHoolboy and it’s refreshing to see this particular torch carried forward when so much inauthenticity abounds. Let’s just say that, for every Jay-Z, there are at least 30 Pitbulls (and let’s not even get started on the sets of Ying Yang Twins). Even though the show is on the weekend, it doesn’t mean you won't be schooled - in the arts of spitting the fiercest of flows. Preach on, Mr. Q.
