While Ohio appears to be a toenail on Michigan’s foot, our favorite southerly neighbor/presidential election ruiner sure has produced a fair amount of beyond-excellent musicians. One such is Cincinnati's Over the Rhine, the husband and wife duo of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist, which has been cranking out thick, hearty, Midwestern folk rock since the late ‘80s. And their hard work has paid off: the sheer volume of OTR records alone has undoubtedly helped put the guitar-strumming lovebirds on the musical map. This massive body of work includes a studio album released nearly every year, from 1991 to present, and participation on several collaborative albums, compilations and projects. Given this, we must conclude Over the Rhine has proved its worth as a prolific force of Americana roots-rock. We’re not sure why Detweiler and Bergquist chose to take the saying “make beautiful music together” literally on their wedding day, but we’re awfully glad they did.
