Bust out your snowshoes, your cross-country skis, your dog parkas — whatever you need to make it through winter, because the snowy season is officially here.

Personally, I’m excited to be past the major holidays and have some time to just get cozy and lay around the house. There’s no better excuse to stay home than “the roads are so bad we might die if we go out.”

That said, cabin fever will surely set in if you do nothing but weigh down the couch, so we still have plenty for you to do in the week ahead — weather permitting, of course. For one thing, you should check out our rundown of Grand Rapids’ World of Winter, a month-long festival that fully takes advantage of the chilly climate.

Here’s what’s on our radar:

Atwater Brewery
201 Michigan St. NW., Grand Rapids
Jan. 24, 9 p.m., $10

By the end of January, cabin fever is probably setting in. That’s why the queens at Beauty Beyond Drag Productions are putting on a performance to get you out of the house “and into the barstool.” This glamorous show will benefit Well House, an organization focused on bringing housing to those who need it most

301 State St., St. Joseph
Jan. 25, 12 – 4 p.m., $35

Southwest Michigan beer enthusiasts, unite: St. Joseph’s Fifth Annual Winter Beer Fest is upon us. The festival is outside, so bring all your winter essentials. Attendees will try lots of samples, from both regional and local Michigan breweries, including Altes, Bell's, Haymarket, Maplewood, North Pier and many more. Bundle up, because even beer can only warm you so much.

Perrin Brewing Company
5910 Comstock Park Dr. NW, Comstock Park
Jan. 25, 3-8 p.m.

Drinking, live music, games and charity — they all go great together! Head to Perrin for this annual family-friendly event that benefits Kids’ Food Basket, a nonprofit that provides food for kids in school. You can donate $10 or bring food on the Kids’ Food Basket wishlist (visit Facebook for more info).

Jan. 25, all day

HopCat celebrates every year with a huge lineup of rare beers, free cosmic fries for everyone from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and the annual Cosmik Fries Eating Contest. If you want to win a $500 gift card and believe you can eat an ungodly amount of fries in 6 minutes, you might as well give it a go! Or just head to HopCat around 3 p.m. to grab a special beer and enjoy the show.

Van Andel Arena
130 W. Fulton St., Grand Rapids
Jan. 26, 3 p.m.

If you’re from the Midwest, there’s a good chance you’ve seen these guys in action. If you haven’t, the Harlem Globetrotters are making their way around the court and you can see them here at the Van Andel. The traveling basketball troupe pulls out all the stops with insane trick shots, flips, dunks and other amazing feats of athleticism, all mixed in with a bit of humor. Don’t try it at home
