Presents are on their way, trees are up, snow is in the forecast — we’ve officially entered the holiday season.
We’re trying to avoid crazy long lines at the mall and huge holiday gatherings, considering that COVID is still a thing and the numbers are quite high — but there are plenty of local events to enjoy safe and socially distanced, or even virtually at home!
Here are a few of our picks, but remember: Wear your mask, keep your distance and stay safe!
A Season of Shop Hop
Instead of just being one big weekend of shopping, Shop Hop is now spread out throughout the season! All your favorite stores in Uptown, Wealthy Street, East Hills and Eastown are still open and offering great gift options, from jewelry to stationery to clothes and much more. Plus, on Thursdays, there will be special outdoor surprises and delights! It’s a whole season of shopping.
Macatawa Holiday Market
Holland Town Center
Dec. 12, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
The best way to shop is from local vendors, and it gets even better when the event helps raise funds to help people in third-world countries. The Macatawa Marketplace does just that, and its holiday market at the Holland Town Center is perfect for gift-shopping, with more than 60 unique vendors available! Come and safely buy homemade cupcakes, home décor, ornaments and so much more.
Holiday Mall Market
North Kalamazoo Mall
Dec. 12, 4-8 p.m.
If you want to shop local and live near Kalamazoo, head to this event at the mall with tons of local vendors and entrepreneurs. It’s outdoors, it’s distanced, it’s fun!
A Very Merry Jingle Jam
Dec. 11, 8 p.m.
We don’t always need to gather in person to celebrate — the holiday spirit transcends that! This Jingle Jam will be a big, festive virtual night of entertainment and live music, with proceeds helping Mel Trotter Ministries, who are working to end homelessness in West Michigan. There are more than 20 featured performers so far, and there will also be a raffle with donated prizes from local businesses! Now those are some happy holidays.
Jeff Daniels Live
Presented by Kalamazoo State Theatre
Dec. 12, 8 p.m.
You read that right: Jeff Daniels of “The Newsroom,” “Dumb and Dumber,” and many other big movies is also a talented singer-songwriter, and he’s performing for the Kalamazoo State Theatre – virtually! Tickets are just $15 to see his whole performance featuring songs, stories, and a quick Q&A following the show.
