We’re in the final week of Spring, and the weather suits just right.

A bit of rain, some wind, and a healthy dose of sun! It’s a great week to leave the house and do all the things you haven’t been able to since March 2020.

Let’s not waste any time: Here are some of our event suggestions for the week ahead!

Sunset Cinema: The Naked Gun 2 ½
Studio Park
June 17, 8 p.m.

We all loved Movies On Monroe, but the world has changed and so have events. Now, instead of fighting a crowd of hundreds of people to find an acceptable spot, you can simply buy tickets for you and up to three friends. In the piazza at Studio Park, you get your own swath of grass to set up and watch a movie with friends, drinks and food. This week, it’s The Naked Gun 2 ½, with Leslie Nielsen as a bumbling policeman who saves the day.

Late Night Street Food
The Sovengard
June 19, 11 p.m.

The Sovengard’s Late Night Street Food series is back for 2021! The first night is “a night of Jamaican spice and soul” for a very special Juneteenth celebration featuring food from Irie Kitchen. The menu will feature Caribbean favorites like jerk chicken, curry goat, festival and more. No reservations, no tickets, just food, drinks, and music in the biergarten.

Justice 4 All Juneteenth Jam
June 19, 1-5 p.m.

Welcome to the first-ever annual Justice 4 All jam thrown for Grand Rapids. This free event is a celebration of African-American culture, paying homage to the day slaves actually found out they were now free. Activities include live performances, Black-owned food and business vendors, a graffiti art showcase, lots to learn, prizes and more! All you have to do is show up and celebrate.

Pride In the Parking Lot
Hamburger Mary’s
6240 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids
June 19, 11 a.m.-close

For those who don’t know, Hamburger Mary’s is a family of locally owned, independent restaurants featuring drag performers, and the only one in Michigan is now in Grand Rapids. All ages are welcome, including families! This weekend, they’re hosting Pride in the Parking Lot, a full day of drag performances, Pride vendors and a beer garden. Starting with Beauty Beyond Drag at 11 a.m., there will also be drag performers from Club Vortex, Dunes Resort, Rumors and Hamburger Mary’s. The best part? It’s free!

Lowell Showboat Sizzlin’ Summer Concerts
Riverwalk Plaza
June 17, 7 p.m.

This performance from Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys kicks off the Lowell Showboat Sizzlin’ Summer Concerts. This series features Thursday evening concerts with free admission, parking and bleacher seating, not to mention food and spirits to purchase. Enjoy music on the water!
