Renowned musician Amir ElSaffar joins vocalist Hamid Al-Saadi to present the Iraqi maqam, incorporating jazz, classical and other Middle Eastern styles to create a highly unique and personalized sound.
The maqam is the classical vocal tradition of Iraq, one of the most refined of the many maqam traditions found throughout the Arab and Muslim world. Its sophisticated melodies, infectious rhythms, and eloquent poetry are a direct reflection of Iraq’s history, geography, culture, and folklore; in them can be found the essence of all that is Iraq.
