30 Years in Revue: Where we came from, who we are now and how we got here

Revue has grown quite a bit in 30 years, but to understand how, we have to go back to the beginning.

In 1988, Doug Fast created Music Revue to fill a hole in journalism. The publication was born in an entirely different time and place compared to the West Michigan we know today — craft beer hardly existed, the local restaurant scene was a shadow of what it is today, and the founder of ArtPrize was only six years old.

Dashboard Confessional coming to Grand Rapids

Just announced: Dashboard Confessional is playing at 20 Monroe Live in April of next year.

Over the past year, dozens of businesses have come and gone, but on the whole, they’re mostly coming. At least 30 restaurants have opened doors this year, from sandwich shops to whiskey bars with $22 entrees and a brewery with Puerto Rican food. West Michigan’s capacity for great food may reach a ceiling at some point, but we don’t seem to be anywhere near it yet. Here’s our look back on 2017.
