It’s no doubt that ice cream steals the spotlight on those hot summer days. Cool off and treat yourself to some quality scoops from a few of the best local ice cream parlors. Here’s some (but not all) of our favorites.

Jersey Junction
652 Croswell Ave. SE, Grand Rapids

If you’re a Grand Rapids native, you might have grown up going to Jersey Junction. The old-fashioned ice cream parlor has been a staple in East Grand Rapids since it first opened doors in 1963. Even now, on most summer days, the line can be found stretching to the sidewalk with kids and adults waiting to get a scoop of the sweet stuff. Stepping inside is a dream, from the smell when you first walk in to the old-school candy filling the shelves, along with the colorful decor. The shop offers the classic cone, as well as shakes, malts, flurries and splits. This year, Jersey Junction gives you the option to create your own ice cream cookie sandwich, choosing from six types of cookies and any flavor of ice cream.

Furniture City Creamery
958 Cherry St. SE,
Grand Rapids

Furniture City Creamery may be housed in a petit space (496 sq. ft.), but this ice cream parlor churns out big flavor. The ice cream is made fresh and on the spot with natural, locally sourced ingredients. You’re likely to spy a new flavor option with each visit since the shop rotates over 109 dairy and vegan flavors throughout the year. Change up your classic cone option by enjoying the shops shakes, floats, sundaes and ice cream sandwiches. If it’s your first visit, or even if you’re a regular, the shop recommends trying the chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches, followed by creme brûlée ice cream.

Love’s Ice Cream
435 Ionia Ave. SW, Grand Rapids

Tucked away in the heart of the Downtown Market, Love’s Ice Cream demonstrates a clear passion for what they do. The shop’s ingredients are sourced locally and organically. Along with the handcrafted ice cream, Love’s offers vegan gelato, sorbet and baked treats. The flavors alternate, so make sure to peek at the daily flavors on Love’s website before you head down.

Los 3 Mangos De Michoacan
2023 S. Division Ave., Grand Rapids

If you’re looking for a truly authentic and delicious experience, head on down to Los 3 Mangos De Michoacan. Fruit is the star at this Mexican ice cream shop. Los 3 Mangos De Michoacan offers up handmade popsicles and ice cream loaded with fresh fruit.
