West Michigan breweries medal at Great American Beer Fest

Of the 242 winners at this year’s Great American Beer Festival in Boulder, Colo. five West Michigan breweries walked away with medals for their beer.

Grand Rapids-based Founders Brewing Co. took first place in the Imperial Red Ale category with its reDANKulous beer, while Battle Creek-based Arcadia Brewing Co. won a silver medal for its India Pale Ale in the Classic English-Style Pale Ale category.

Further north, Elk Rapids-based Short’s Brewing Co. and Right Brain Brewery of Traverse City both won silver medals in the Experimental Beer and Rye Beer categories for their Melt My Brain and Concrete Dinosaur beers, respectively.

Rockford Brewing Co. also won a bronze medal for its Rouge River Brown in the English-style Brown Ale category.

The Great American Beer Festival is presented annually by the Brewers Association.
