Cooking Classes
The Local Epicurean
1440 Wealthy St. SE, Grand Rapids

If you give a man some pasta, you feed him for a day. If you teach him to make his own pasta, you feed him for life. The greatest gift you can give a foodie is a new dish for their home-cooking repertoire, and a class at The Local Epicurean is a super fun way to do it. Pasta, Asian noodles, gelato, steak — whatever you want to learn, an expert chef will walk you through it, all while you enjoy drinks and food.

Private Chef

Then again, who can make a better meal than a professional chef cooking up an in-home, private dinner just for you? There are tons of amazing home dining experiences in West Michigan, including the Steadfast Supper Club, Planted Cuisine, Tiny Dinners and more. Book one for a special day with friends, and enjoy an evening to remember alongside the foodie.

Art of the Table
606 Wealthy St. SE, Grand Rapids

Whether your foodie friend prefers eating or cooking, Art of the Table has you covered. You’ll find gourmet foods in abundance, but you don’t have to make all the choices yourself — pick from one of many predesigned gift boxes, ranging from the fun More S’mores Please to the gourmet Paella Party. Or go for kitchen gifts like decorative towels, handmade wooden utensils, and much more.

MasterChef Live!

Coffee Tasting: Identifying Taste + Understanding Origin
Ferris Coffee
839 Seward Ave. NW, Grand Rapids
Multiple dates

When you pick up a coffee bag and see tasting notes like, “Black cherry, bubblegum, and birch bark,” you have to wonder if people can actually identify those. Well, the supertaster can — or at least, they’d like to, and that’s where you come in. Book your friend for this class at Ferris Coffee, where they’ll learn in-depth about the coffee flavor wheel, varietal and origins, farming education and more!

Fustini’s Oils and Vinegars
24 E. 8th St., Holland

The supertaster doesn’t just use vegetable oil for everything — they pair the right oil with every meal, and Fustini’s has a huge selection of infused olive oils, unique vinegars, and more. They make it easy, with gift sets like the Six-Pack Sampler, featuring a selection of the most versatile balsamic vinegars and olive oils around.

The Cheese Lady
Multiple locations

The joy of Cheese Lady isn’t just in leaving the store with cheese — it’s spending half an hour trying samples as you become increasingly convinced to buy everything they have to offer. Get the supertaster a gift card and they can enjoy an afternoon just shopping at the store, then they’ll think of you all over again when they enjoy the lavish cheese platter at home.

Wine Tasting: Old World vs. New
435 Ionia Ave. SW, Grand Rapids
Nov. 8

With wine now being grown in every corner of the world, the supertaster has all kinds of new flavors to explore. This class from Aperitivo puts the old world of wine (Europe) and the new side-by-side, so the supertaster can taste and compare, discovering their new favorite wine region. Plus, there are tasty cheese pairings throughout!

International Wine, Beer & Food Festival
DeVos Place
303 Monroe Ave. NW, Grand Rapids
Nov. 19-20

This annual festival is a beer buff favorite and always will be, thanks to dozens of Michigan’s best craft brewers coming together with unique, tasty and rare brews. The beer buff will be in heaven with so many options to choose from, not to mention food, craft cider, spirits, and hundreds of wines. Cheers!

New Holland Brewing Co. Merch

Honestly, merch from any local brewery will make the beer buff happy, but New Holland is just one spot with tons of great options, from beanies to blankets, pennants, bottle openers and far more. To keep it extra local, check out the collaborations with artists like the recent Hazy River project from Woosah. It’s stylish, comfy, and special.

Multiple locations

A gift card to any beer bar or brewery will make the beer buff happy, but wherever they live in West Michigan, there’s sure to be a HopCat nearby. Many locations offer more than 100 beers, along with delicious burgers and Cosmik Fries. Even better, if you buy a $50 gift card right now, you’ll get $20 for yourself! Or buy a $30 gift card and get $10 for yourself. It pays to give.

Bell’s Homebrew Kit
Bell’s General Store
355 E. Kalamazoo Ave., Kalamazoo

Bell’s Brewery has everything you could need to brew whatever you want at home, including brewing kits that make it extra easy for the beer buff to clone their favorite Bell’s offering. Depending how advanced of a brewer they are, you can gift an all-grain kit or an extract kit, both resulting in about 5 gallons of delicious liquid. Two Hearted, Oberon, Hopslam — they have it all.

Amped Reality VR
2923 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids

Virtual reality is the future of gaming, but let’s be honest, it’s hardly affordable. If your friend doesn’t have a brand new computer and a spare room for VR, there’s still a way to make their dreams a reality: Head to Amped Reality and grab a gift card so the game master can delve into today's immersive games.

Great Lakes Glow Golf
3494 Plainfield Ave. NE, Grand Rapids

The game master is the rare type to actually keep score when you go mini-golfing, and they’re always sad when winter comes around and robs them of the chance to destroy your miserable putting. Take them to Great Lakes Glow Golf, where not only can you putt year-round in trippy ultraviolet settings, but the ticket includes access to a free arcade of 20+ games.

Escape Rooms

The game master loves to compete, whether it’s against friends, foes, or a ticking clock. If you want to satiate their cravings, try booking a local escape room. We have tons of great options all over West Michigan, offering dozens of themed rooms full of puzzles and riddles. Let the game master do most of the work and you’re sure to win, leaving everyone happy.

Well, they’ll be even more obsessed with Cellar of Tales, a friendly dungeon below Arktos that provides the perfect atmosphere for tabletop games of all kinds. Wax Poetic Candle Bar

Plus, you get to create a custom label, decorating with a picture, a name, whatever you like! They’ll think of you every time they light that bad boy up.

Nature Makers Market
Blandford Nature Center
1715 Hillburn Ave. NW, Grand Rapids

They still love yoga, organic foods and everything nature, so you’re sure to find the perfect gift at this Nature Makers Market. Head to Blandford for handcrafted goods like jewelry, textiles, art prints, stickers and much more, all celebrating nature.

If you can’t make it to the market, never fear: Nestology is here. This local shop is the perfect place to buy everything a nature lover could ask for, from botanical ceramic dishes to butterfly vials, floral mugs, leaf earrings and more. Your issue here won’t be finding something to buy, but narrowing it down to just one or two options.

Straight No Chaser
DeVos Performance Hall
303 Monroe Ave. NW, Grand Rapids
Nov. 30, 8 p.m.

It’s hard to imagine a more pure display of vocal talent than a cappella (music without instruments), and Straight No Chaser are masters of the craft. For over a decade, they’ve been performing all the hits from past to present, including multiple holiday albums — such as Social Christmasing, released last year. Your audiophile friend will be blown away by the sounds these men are able to create with just their mouths, no chaser.

Turnstiles Bar
526 Stocking Ave. NW, Grand Rapids

Your audiophile friend already owns every vinyl record they could ever want — don’t bother. Instead, take them to a place for music lovers, like Turnstiles Bar on the west side of Grand Rapids. They’ll love music-themed drinks like the Boys of Summer Old Fashioned or Kiss From a Rosé, not to mention delicious food and a classic jukebox crankin’ out the tunes.
