Deadwood Stone opened for Slash last month. Yeah, that's right. The same Slash you're thinking of. The one with the top-hat and the crazy hair. The one who played during last year's Super Bowl Halftime Show. You know – he used to be in a little band called Guns 'n' Roses.

Deadwood Stone was one of twenty bands chosen by Slash to perform during his Apocalyptic Love tour after the members submitted the music video for "The Man," a single from their upcoming album.

"We're really hoping this will help us reach out to the east side of the state," said Bassist Fred Droski. "It's one thing to book shows in Grand Rapids, but getting other areas of Michigan to pay attention to you is a battle."

The album that birthed "The Man" is being recorded at Double D Productions (Super Dre, Build Them to Break). Droski, who joined the band directly after the recording of the band's debut EP Exit Strategy, expressed hopes that the new album will reach a larger audience through higher production values and more nuanced musical elements.

"There's a lot more melody to this album," Droski said. "We've always wanted to be really heavy on guitars with the band, and this next album has taken it to the next step. "

That's why, according to Droski, it's taken more than two years for Deadwood Stone to release a second recording.

"We've taken a lot of time to do this," he said. "We wanted to get it right. We're going to be sending it out everywhere."

Droski said the album should be available in late fall. "The Man" and the Exit Strategy EP are currently available for download on iTunes.
