The Case with Waste

Proprietary is a modern eco-friendly store with old-fashioned values. It’s this mingling of timeless traditions with a contemporary upgrade that gives it a unique business perspective, allowing the shop to build a stronger community while staying environmentally aware.

“We’re a zero-waste bulk food store, and we ask that people come in with clean containers and fill them up and use as much as you can without creating more waste,” said Elizabeth Diasparra, co-owner of Proprietary with her husband, Mike. Add three kids to the mix and the inspiration for the business resulted in both parents continually trying to reduce their waste footprint and live a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.

Shop specialties include vegan and organic bulk goods, coffee, berries, oats, sugar, flour, nutritional yeast, and package-free soap, as well as Harney & Sons teas. A favorite item of Diasparra’s is the chili mangos, as she is “really into that spicy fruit option.”

Expect eco-friendly and sustainable goods including Bamboozle Compost Bins, wheat-fiber lunch boxes, and nesting bowl sets made of biodegradable, dishwasher safe, durable bamboo fiber.

It’s about putting an end to the plastic waste that pollutes our planet and showing the world what a little bulk buying can do. When you bring in your own sanitized and reusable containers, you are taking charge of your impact on the world.
