I’m a classic Gen Xer who strongly identifies with the My Sharona scene in Reality Bites. I constantly try to remember how we did things before the internet. I mean, how?! I get to write for a living, and I would love to say I got lucky, but I actually worked really hard to do it. I love all the baked goods, bold lipstick, learning new things, and traveling in Michigan. I’ve written for Revue for several years, and I’ve been excited about every story. I have met so many interesting people and discovered so many paces that I didn’t know existed. But I’m most proud of writing my own column, called “Get Out!”

If we took a peek into your weekend, where would we find you?

In warm months, I am either in the garden covered in dirt, or in the kitchen—sterilized—creating weird concoctions. I make jams, jellies, hard ciders, meads, and infused spirits. You can also find me in a kayak on the water. When it gets colder, I’ll be in the woods or on a trail hiking with my recreation group.

What's a piece of media that really shaped you?

I had the privilege of attending TEDx Grand Rapids for a couple of years in a row before it dissolved. It was one of the more profound experiences I’ve had, not only in terms of the thought-provoking content by the speakers, but also in being forced to socialize with strangers. As a writer, I don’t always trust myself in verbal communication; this was an opportunity to gain some confidence and also make connections.
