Zachary Avery is a Grand Rapids-based freelance writer focused on human-interest stories from the worlds of visual arts, drinking, music, and outdoor recreation. His favorite piece with Revue has been “Cuts, Skips, and Glitches: The Cost Of A Free Lunch”, in which Avery attempted to speedrun an impossibly difficult section of Mario Kart 64 in order to win a free meal from One Stop Coney, a local hotdog favorite. On a typical weekend, Avery enjoys visiting gaming bars in downtown GR or singing karaoke at whichever spot will let him do ska. Avery’s biggest influences from media have been journalists like Hunter S. Thompson, Gene Weingarten and Ira Glass, as well as other writers like Jack Kerouac and Luke Healy.
