There was a time when we thought we'd never hear new music from Neutral Milk Hotel ever again. The critically acclaimed indie band disbanded shortly after the release of its successful album, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, which includes "Holland, 1945," No. 7 on Pitchfork's list of Top 200 Tracks from the 1990s. Frontman Jeff Mangum famously made little-to-no public appearances after the band's breakup, allegedly having a nervous breakdown over extensive touring. Over the next 10 years, Mangum made appearances here and there, collaborating with other musicians and performing Neutral Milk Hotel songs during solo performances. A band reunion, however, was uncertain.
That was until April 2013, when Neutral Milk Hotel announced a reunion tour with the original members on In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. The tour marks 15 years since the band last performed together. In May of this year, it was announced the band would extend the tour. Lucky for us, because Neutral Milk Hotel had scheduled a date in West Michigan. On April 23, the band will perform at Kalamazoo State Theatre.
