Suddenly, at the blink of an eye, August is here and summer is fast approaching its end. With autumn drawing closer in, excitement forms as new expectations are made of what the next season will bring. Here to help with the transition is the track of the week, preaching adventure, change and moving forward.
On Aug. 3, the indie rock band Vagabonds, hailing from Grand Rapids, released its latest album, Discontent. The band's introspective nature serves to provide listeners with music they can relate to while on their own journeys of self-discovery.
The track of the week, "Anywhere (But Here)", features vocals and guitar by Luke Dean while Robert McLemore handles the bass. The band members are accompanied by special guest drummer Jack Nellis and the track is finished off with gang vocals by Yoseph Ahmad El-Ali, Sam McDonald, Garrett Steed, Ricky Quillan and Andrew McKee.
True to its name, "Anywhere (But Here)" invokes feelings of discontent by starting off with an unrelenting, urgent strumming of the guitar, accompanied by grisly, assertive vocals. The track then flows into a melodic steady beat of the drum, ending with the light jingle of the tambourine and harmonious vocals. A tale of getting out of town and avoiding regret, "Anywhere (But Here)" leaves listeners seeking freedom and striving to live life to its fullest potential.
