TRACK OF THE WEEK: “Buddy Bigfoot” by The Free Life

The local music scene has been struck with yet another subgenre of rock 'n' roll music, but this time it’s one whose musical quality doesn’t fall short of a pure commitment to the genre. In fact, The Free Life, isn’t afraid to alter the meaning of “punk-rock progenitor”, as the trio’s distinct sound can be attributed to their personalized capabilities of fusing the classic sounds of punk rock with a modern blend of indie/alternative. Clearly, a new rock subgenre would have to suffice to sum up the sounds of these rockers.

Based out of Kalamazoo, The Free Life, featuring Liz Bradshaw on drums alongside Tim Bauer and Mark Ferguson on bass and guitar, plan to hit the road again for a 10 day tour in May; of course not before they make a pit stop in Grand Rapids for a show in March 8 at Mulligan's.

The band’s most recent album, Armageddon, Schmarmageddon, features the trio’s politically quirky twist to eccentrically recreate the “proto-punk” sounds of '90s past. We’re spinning “Buddy Bigfoot” for this week’s Local Track of the Week. So go ahead, hit the play button and rock out to what the band calls, some not-so-serious music.
