TRACK OF THE WEEK: “Habit of Sin” by The Bermudas

Apparently area garages can't contain some Grand Rapids garage bands. Local venues have seen their share of acts that carry this label, many of which have become mainstays in the scene. Well, we can add another up-and-comer to the mix.

Just as the music scene has evolved, so has the phrase “garage band,” which is one that has become more of a representative genre label for small independent bands like The Bermudas.

These Grand Rapids-based ladies are a three-piece indie garage rock band who are all about spreading positive vibes, and with a name like ‘The Bermudas,’ why wouldn’t they be? Together, Charity Lytle (bass, synthesizer), Dennielle Russ (guitar, shakers, vocals), and DezaRae' Russ (drums, tambourine) produce an intricate blend of guitar and drum beat match-ups behind Dennielle’s pure vocals.

Earlier this month, they dropped their brand new 5-track EP Visit, which can be summed up as a collective of catchy tunes. The past couple of years have seen a reputational growth for the trio, as they’ve made frequent charitable appearances at festivals such as Grand Rapids Lady Fest, Girls Rock Grand Rapids and the West Michigan Pride Festival.

“Habit of Sin” is the track we’re spinning this week, so while these ladies are busy preparing for a roster of out-of-state shows and festival appearances, press play and let the positive vibes take over.
