TRACK OF THE WEEK: “On and On” by The Mainstays

It’s all about the groove for The Mainstays as their emergence as a modern day funk-soul band aims to revive a style of music from a bygone era, playing such classic sounds that legendary soul masters would have loved to recreate. These Kalamazoo-based rockers introduce their own personal taste of classic rhythm which alternates between R&B, funk, soul and rock ‘n' roll.

This summer-born quintet features Paul Bauer behind the drum kit and the smooth-styling’s of Dutch Conway (bass), Nate Heymoss (guitar), and Tom Eldred (keys) to provide the classic, yet modern, reverberation behind Andrew Schrock’s pure vocals.

Their 4-track EP aptly titled, The Mainstays, is the group’s first release (and first step) in an effort to break into the local music scene as a band bringing back the sounds of the ‘60s and ‘70s. The EP draws heavily on groovy elements to produce a range of both upbeat and mellow reverberations.

We’re featuring “On and On” as a track we’re mellowing out to this week. So kick back, let the groove move you and enjoy a little soul-touching.
