TRACK OF THE WEEK: “The Night Before Your Sister’s Party” by Secret Grief

Starting a band seems as simple as gathering a bunch of dudes together, writing some songs and doing some venue hopping. Of course, there’s also the part of choosing a memorable band name, an aspect that may prove to be tough feat. The great thing about band names though, is that once fans accept the first change, they’ll have no problem accepting the next one.

With most of its members coming out of now-defunct Tiger! Tiger!, this Muskegon-based clan is now cruising the local music scene as Secret Grief. Much appease to their growing fan base, the crew’s consistency has remained with their musicality as an indie-punk band.

Released last year, Secret Grief’s split album with Runaway Brother dubbed Mutual Attraction//Opposite Direction exposes fans to the inside of the rockers’ musical revelations, of which come together to produce a record that attempts to connect with different kinds of people through the use of heavily-expressed emotionality.

The month of May is filled with Midwestern touring stops, so be sure to come out to Lemonjello's on May 9 and vibe out to what the band calls, “a musical culmination of opposing ideas, beliefs, and expressions.” In case you can’t make it, take a listen to what you’ll be missing out on. We chose, “The Night Before Your Sister’s Party” as our Track of the Week.
