TRACK OF THE WEEK: “Titanoboa” by Heaters

The musical heydays of the ‘60s and ‘70s have found their way into Grand Rapids as fellow psychedelic rock bands have successfully revolutionized an era of music into something of a modern-day rising trend. The mind-altering hypnotic rhythms of guitar, vocal and organ effects has psychedelic rock grabbing a lot of attention lately, and a lot of that attention can be due in part to Michigan Psych Night, a “mini-festival” that has showcased fellow psychedelic rockers like the Heaters.

Ultimately, psych rock has become more of a classification of all things considered garage music-esque; something the guys of Heaters fully embrace, as they decided to ditch the traditional recording studio and make an album in an attic. Their newly released five-track album Brown Sugar features a track list that embraces in a heavy use of reverb to successfully replicate the sounds of psychedelic culture’s past.

This rocker-trio will be making a second appearance at another installment of Michigan Psych Night, where you can catch a whiff of their psychedelic vibes at Mulligan’s Pub on April 24. If you’d rather mellow out at home, press play and listen to our featured track of the week “Titanoboa.”
