Art Caribbean Fusion Cuisine opened downtown Grand Rapids at 55 Monroe Center NW. The art-centric restaurant serves unique Caribbean food, such as empanadas and steak jibarito made with plantains instead of bread. The business began as a food truck, El Caribe, before moving into this location, which is full of art from local and international artists.
Terra in Eastown is branching out with Terra Bagels, open a couple of doors down the street at 1413 Lake Drive SE, Grand Rapids. The shop is open every day for breakfast and lunch, with more than 10 varieties of bagels, an assortment of schmear, and bagel sandwiches. Hailing from the east side, Two James Spirits was finally able to open its Grand Rapids tasting room at 740 Michigan St., sharing an entrance with 7 Monks Taproom. The distillery is known for its Michigan-grown spirits and imaginative craft cocktails.
Taco + Bar joined the Holland community, offering tacos and cocktails as the name suggests. This new restaurant at 220 W. 8th St. is focused on being local, fresh and community-oriented. The menu is unpretentious, yet offers a variety of taco offerings, including two vegetarian options.
Tupelo Honey Café joins us from Asheville, North Carolina. Located inside Hyatt Place at 140 Ottawa Ave. NW, downtown Grand Rapids, the restaurant offers a seasonal menu of Southern cuisine, such as catfish, fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and more. It’s comfort food, kicked up a notch.
Denizens of Douglas have a new place to shop and eat in the form of Isabel’s Market + Eatery. The market/bakery/event space offers a variety of food, coffee, cooking classes, and more. Check it out at 310 Blue Star Highway.
Marriott’s AC Hotel is making use of its lounge space with a new pop-up restaurant, La Ventanita, inspired by walk-up Cuban restaurant windows in Miami. The menu features Latin American-inspired dishes, tropical cocktails, and a wine list, all served indoors and out at 50 Monroe Ave. NW, Grand Rapids.
Adesanya Mead is now open in Grandville, launching with a nice selection of draft (lightly carbonated) meads, such as the Still Frame, a tangerine, pineapple and mango mead with wildflower honey. Right now, the new meadery at 3012 28th St. SW focuses on inventive drafts full of flavor, with still mead, beer and hard cider to come in the future.
