GRAND RAPIDS — Chick-fil-A Inc. seems relentless in its desire to secure a location near Knapp Street and East Beltline Avenue on Grand Rapids’ northeast side.
The Atlanta, Ga.-based fried chicken chain has refiled altered plans with the Grand Rapids Planning Commission to open a drive-thru location at 2183 East Beltline Ave. NE, despite the body rejecting a request this past October, largely on the grounds that residents and planners don’t see the area as right for a drive-thru.
The new plans — still created by Grand Rapids-based architecture and engineering firm Progressive A&E — call for an approximate 5,000-square-foot restaurant area, 1,200 square feet of office space and a drive-thru less visible from the East Beltline.
The Planning Commission will learn more about Chick-fil-A’s plans at its meeting on Jan. 26.
Prevalent in the southern U.S. for years, Chick-fil-A is just making its way into the West Michigan market. A location opened in Gaines Township this week and another has been proposed near Centerpointe Mall at the corner of 28th Street and East Beltline Avenue SE.
All Chick-fil-A locations are independently owned and operated franchises.
