Grand Rapids filmmakers take top prizes at Made-in-Michigan Film Festival

Daniel Falicki and Joel Potrykus, both of Grand Rapids, took home top awards each at the 8th annual Made-in-Michigan Film Festival for their feature films, “Accidental Exorcist” and “The Alchemist Cookbook,” respectively.

The films were the only two feature-length narratives accepted for the festival, out of 15 submitted.

“The Alchemist Cookbook” won Best Narrative Feature, while “Accidental Exorcist” took home Best of Festival, the top prize out of all 40 films of any length or genre accepted. This award also comes with a $500 check.

Falicki also won Best Lead Actor, as he starred in his own movie, while Amari Cheatom — who has also acted in “Django Unchained” and “Newlyweeds” — won Best Supporting Actor as Cortez in “The Alchemist Cookbook.”

The festival ran from Feb. 3-5 in Frankenmuth, with approximately 500 people attending.
