With no premonition of the U.S. government shutdown ending, furloughed federal employees and their families are facing the harsh effects. The Grand Rapids Art Museum and Children’s Museum are providing an opportunity for these employees to still experience the cultural benefits of the the Grand Rapids community by offering free admission with a federal identification. Show of I.D. allows admission for the employee and three additional guests.
These cultural attractions are joining others across the United States in an effort to show their support and appreciation for the individuals that work in the federal government. The museums’ CEOs are elated to join in the campaign.
“We are so thankful for all that federal workers do for our community and country,” said GRCM CEO Maggie Lancaster. “We are honored to provide a place for learning and play during this unfortunate situation.”
Similarly to their ongoing initiative Museums for All, the Grand Rapids Museum doesn’t want anyone in the community to be denied the opportunity to experience the arts. Organizations in Kalamazoo, Detroit and Flint are doing likewise for furloughed federal employees.
