The black comedy Buzzard has been picked up by international sales company Media Luna for worldwide distribution. Buzzard is Grand Rapids-based director Joel Potrykus' latest and final piece in his “animal trilogy." The film was recently scooped up by Oscilloscope Laboratories for US distribution before premiering at SXSW.
Potrykus, has been making movies for a few years now, including 2012's Ape. The second installment in the "animal trilogy," Ape (similar to God Bless America) is also a black comedy. 2014’s Buzzard follows the exploits of Marty, a sociopathic scammer on the run who gets increasingly pissed off at society. The film’s theme of being fed-up with the system came from Potrykus’ personal experiences as a temp office worker — fans of Office Space should be right at home here.
Buzzard will be featured prominently this August at the 67th Locarno Festival, where it will be competing in the “Filmmakers of the Present” section, and with any luck it will be coming soon to a theater near you.
