October Style Notes: Spring Sweet; GLAM Ride

Spring Sweet is getting a new move and some new bridal inventory. The new location at (56 E. 8th St., Holland) is noteworthy enough, but the lifestyle boutique will now offer bridal selections as Spring Sweet bought out September’s Bride of Holland. “It’s something that fell into my lap,” said Sweet, who shares a name with the store, discussing how she thought bridal offerings could be a great addition to the shop. “I love the bridal industry.” Spring Sweet offers women’s clothing, accessories and home décor, as well as daily fresh flowers. “The person that loves our style will find it natural to add bridal to that," Sweet said. "It’s a fun add on.” The new arrangement features the mainstay business on the main floor with the bridal inventory upstairs. “We bought all of their inventory and are excited to carry that, but put a Spring Sweet twist on it—our version of the Spring Sweet bride.”

I’m going on record that this might be the coolest thing I’ve heard about in a long time. Take I GOT FACE Cosmetic Concierge and pair it with Johannah Jelks and the She Rides Her Own Way campaign. The end result is GLAM Ride. What’s a GLAM Ride? Well, this one takes place Oct. 9 during ArtPrize and it calls for tutus, studded sneakers and stylish high-tops on a slow-stroll through downtown. The bike ride is all about being glamorous, getting dolled up and building self-esteem in women and girls, all while exercising in a fun and fabulous way. “Makeup is our art,” said Latesha Lipscomb, owner of I GOT FACE. “Fashion styling is an art. Hair can be art. We’re making a fashion statement in the street. We’re serious about getting healthy, reminding women of their own unique beauty and celebrating women who love to ride their bikes.” Ladies will ride their bikes to a pre-party shindig at Lee & Birch featuring mini-makeover stations courtesy of I GOT FACE where you can try everything from a hot new lipstick color to a junk nail application. Park your bike and get pampered and gussied up for an hour. There are refreshments and food, shopping discounts, music and a photo booth to entice. At 7 p.m. sharp there’s a slow roll through the city with a secret location being the night’s final destination. Here, you’ll enjoy a small fashion show, pop-up shops, live entertainment and drink specials. You may even see one of your favorite drag queens hosting the afterglow. It’s all wrapped up in a pretty bow by 10 p.m. Have you ever heard of community building through a neighborhood fashion show bike ride? Get on board! For those of you who are missing spring and summer, you’ll appreciate the Pamella Roland trunk show at A.K. Rikk’s. Both the 2015 Resort collection and her spring collection are at the store. Having lived in Japan, the designer takes that inspiration and uses it for her 2015 Resort collection. An abundance of Asian influences are featured in the collection including prints and fabrics based off her favorite Japanese artist. On Oct. 30, A.K. Rikk’s hosts a trunk show sneak peek, showcasing the collection with a Pamella Roland representative and Pamella herself stops in to help with fittings, answer questions and talk with people during the day. “Clients can come in and try things on and pick colors and pre-order,” said Emily Hughes, director of women's fashions. “It’s something to look forward to. This line doesn’t hit the stores until February or March, so there’s an opportunity to choose styles before stores even have them.” This is an all-day event with sushi and a cocktail hour late in the afternoon. Fashion this close up means having a chance to view a designer collection in its entirety and get a feel for themes and inspiration. Take the bait.
