Opera GR tickets now available for 2016-2017 season

Individual shows and discounted subscription packages are now on sale for the entire upcoming season of Opera Grand Rapids.

The 2016-2017 season kicks off with the fully-staged tango opera Maria de Buenos Aires on Oct. 14 and 15. The surreal show centers on young Maria, “rumored to be born in the slums of Buenos Aires on a day when God was drunk,” according to a statement. Maria falls in love with tango in the city, going on to become the embodiment of the Latin-American dance when she dies.

It’s the most-performed Spanish-language opera in the world and somewhat of a cult classic, according to the statement.

Following that is the Collegiate Vocal Competition Concert in November, with other various shows and events running until June 8, 2017. Ticket prices vary by show. The full season can be found at operagr.org.
