Organizers accepting applications for 45th Festival of the Arts

The bone-chilling weather is an ugly reminder that summer is still a ways off. However, organizers of the 45th Festival of the Arts in downtown Grand Rapids are already beginning to mobilize artists and performers for the upcoming event, which will be held June 6-8.

If you want to participate in the event through an art sales tent, Art on the Spot or performance, applications are now available at festivalgr.org/applications. In order to apply, you must be a resident of Kent County or one of the seven contiguous counties.

Festival organizers are inviting local singers, bands, choral groups, theatre companies and dancers to submit their performance application. An audition, on DVD or CD, must be submitted with the application, along with a $5.00 fee. Deadline for performance applications is Feb. 10. Festival of the Arts features six outdoor performance stages along with indoor venues.

Applications are also online for artists who wish to apply for a booth in the art sales tents or in a space called Art on the Spot. The art sales tent features a variety of artwork including jewelry, pottery, fine art, mixed media, wearable art and more. Art on the Spot is for artists who create items quickly for customers. This includes everything from temporary tattoos and hair-braiding, to caricatures and henna art. The deadline for these applications is Feb. 15.
