After directing the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra for 18 years, Raymond Harvey will be transitioning to music director emeritus at the end of the 2016-17 concert season.
Harvey is shifting focus to his role as associate professor and music director of the Moores Opera Center at the University of Houston.
“ “Teaching has always been my calling, and my love of opera has been a mainstay in my life,” Harvey said. “To be asked to head a university opera program at this stage in my professional career is a terrific blessing.”
The symphony is currently planning to convene a search committee for Raymond’s successor, as Resident Conductor Daniel Brier helps with the transition during the search process, according to a statement.
The 2016-17 season begins today at 8 p.m., with renowned pianist Yefim Bronfman performing Tchaikovsky's 2nd Piano Concerto.
