Every year, we use the Arts Issue to highlight artists making West Michigan a better place to live in one way or another, whether it be through opening a gallery, starting a collective and/or making great art. The artists we put in the spotlight aren’t just talented, they’re driven to create, and they represent the cultural fabric of our community.
We also have an in-depth look at the state of the art collector’s scene (or lack thereof) in Grand Rapids and what impact that has on artists and art-centered organizations.
For something a little lighter, turn to our collaboration with Creative Youth Center to read some incredible journalism from Grand Rapids’ elementary- and middle-school students — it’s guaranteed to brighten your day.
And finally, our Revue Arts pullout section this month is entirely made of Season Previews, a comprehensive guide to the many art exhibitions, theater productions, classical music concerts and more coming to West Michigan over the 2017-2018 season. Hold onto that one — there’s a full year ahead.
