Sparrows plans second Grand Rapids location

Sparrows Coffee Tea and Newsstand is expanding to the Westside in early June.

The new location at 442 Bridge St. NW is right next to Head of the Pride and until recently held Renee Austin Wedding (which last fall moved to Plainfield Avenue). Not much should change from the original Wealthy Street location — the new spot will have a capacity of 49, serve the same menu items, and also host a newsrack with all kinds of local and national magazines.

“Coffee shops are the places where friends can get together, and they help create vibrant neighborhoods,” said First Ward Commissioner David Shaffer.

This is yet another sign of change on Bridge Street, following the very recent openings of Butcher’s Union and One Bourbon, as well as last year’s openings of New Holland’s The Knickerbocker, The Sovengard and Atwater Brewery. On top of that, Jolly Pumpkin eventually may be joining the crowd.
