If you’ve ever heard of the Wharton Center, you probably know that the theater tends to outdo itself every season. This year is no different, as the Wharton Center offers a wide variety of musical styles with the shows that have been selected for the 2018-2019 season.
The Wharton Center’s Broadway season offers up old favorites including Fiddler on the Roof, as well as newer hits like Disney’s Anastasia. There will also be School of Rock, based on the movie featuring Jack Black, as well as Miss Saigon, which follows an epic love story of an Asian woman searching for the American G.I. she fell in love with.
Those who loved Phantom of the Opera will surely love the spellbinding follow-up, Love Never Dies. And perhaps the most anticipated musical of the Wharton Center’s Broadway season is Hamilton, which has been talked about by musical theater lovers everywhere since the first performance back in 2015.
For those who appreciate classical music, the Wharton Center’s classical season kicks off in October with Renée Fleming, followed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. In January, the National Symphony of Romania will take the stage, and Yefim Bronfman comes to the Wharton Center in April.
If experiencing other cultures and worldviews through lectures is more your thing, then the Wharton Center offers three to choose from in 2018-2019. The three lecturers for the season are Ron Suskind, Nontombi Naomi Tutu and Joy-Ann Reid, who all offer up stories of different life experiences.
Similar to the 2017-2018 season, the Wharton Center will offer two Sensory-Friendly performances for those that experience sensory overload. It’s part of the family series, which is something the Wharton Center plans to include each year so that more people will be able to feel comfortable while also enjoying shows that the Wharton Center puts on. The two sensory-friendly performances of the 2018-2019 season are Rosie Revere, etc. and Junie B. Jones.
