In the past 10 years, over 60 professional touring acts, 65 local visual exhibits and thousands of school and community events have had the opportunity to grace the Forest Hills Fine Arts Center’s stage, in turn establishing the communal reputation it holds today. To celebrate such a milestone, Forest Hills spotlights the people who made the FHFAC into what it is today; a local talent landmark providing quality entertainment for the community.
There’s been so many incredible people involved in the center, so the celebration is just about saying thanks in the best way possible,” said Meggan George, manager at the Fine Arts Center.
In an effort to showcase what the FHFAC is all about, this one-of-a-kind show will feature a decade worth of music from headliner favorites of the past as well as up-and-comers of the present. Over 40 talented musicians, dancers and singers are on tap to perform in a constantly moving performance collaboration. These include students from the Forest Hills Public School District, Phil Biggs and Troll for Trout, who will all take the stage with veteran-rockers Mid-Life Crisis; a local six-piece classic-rock cover band, which will serve as the event’s core group.
We think that one of the wonderful things about the performing arts center, is that it’s home to a very diverse group of musicians that just enjoy playing music together and supporting each other,” said MLC Drummer Steve Bloom. “Grand Rapids has a very inclusive music scene where you can have a show like this, with a bunch of older guys playing with younger guys, who come together to celebrate such an event.”
Rocking around West Michigan for 13 years, MLC is no stranger to the performing arts center, which Bloom calls “a real gem” because of its support toward a spectrum of artists throughout the years. The venue serves as one of the band’s favorite sounding places to perform, where MLC plans to play a fun mix of classic rock favorites.
“The Forest Hills Performing Arts Center provides for such great sound, and really makes the acoustics beautiful,” Bloom said. “This event will be unlike anything we’ve ever done in West Michigan.”
The music-filled evening will involve a collaboration of performers who will be flowing on and off the stage, while MLC serves as the core group. Together, the performance will showcase a variety of musical genres from past Fine Arts Center seasons.
“There’s going to be a lot of activity, lot of energy, and it’ll be really upbeat throughout the entire time,” George said.
The celebration will also unveil one of the performing center’s new endeavors called Community on Canvas which pairs community leaders with local artists to create paintings which will be auctioned off at a benefit event.
