Today's hardcore music features a fairly common formula, but one that so many bands miss the mark on. It's all about brutal breakdowns and insane, barking verses that give way to more melodic choruses with some nice clean vocals.
Either a band is on the money with their clean vocals and then wusses out on everything else or vice-versa. I'm William Cutting blends both rather seamlessly, and has become one of the premier hardcore bands in West Michigan thanks to years of toiling away in the local scene.
Based out of Kalamazoo, I'm William Cutting has served as prime local support for many like-minded nationals bands — Chiodos and Fit For A King just to name two in the last couple months.
The group falls nicely in between hardcore and metal, able to please die-hard fans of both genres. Royal Laraway is an animal of a front man while Nick Ploof injects his clean vocals into the group's well-balanced tracks.
For this week's Local Track of the Week, we're grabbing a song off the band's June 2013 release Blessing of the Curse. The song is "Emperor." FTW…ammaright?
