Getty Drive-In Reopens for 83rd Season on March 27
The Getty Drive-In in Muskegon.

The Getty Drive-In will reopen for the 2026 season on Friday, March 27, marking its 83rd year of operation.

The Muskegon theater first opened in 1944 and remains one of the region’s longstanding summer entertainment venues. It was recently named the recipient of the 2026 Excellence in Tourism Award from the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, recognizing its continued popularity with visitors and local residents.

The drive-in blends its historic setting with modern technology, using digital projection across four big screens and broadcasting sound through an FM radio signal (use your car, or bring an external radio for outside of your vehicle). Guests can purchase all the classic concessions like popcorn, pizza, pretzels, nachos and more at the centrally located stand, or order food delivered directly to their vehicles.

“With a place like the Getty, one works hard during the off season to spruce things up and slip in little upgrades that improve the experience without disrupting the feeling that our guests love,” says manager Chad Gemzer.

Opening weekend will feature single films at a reduced ticket price of $6. Titles scheduled for the first weekend include:

  • Project Hail Mary
  • The Mummy Returns (25th anniversary)
  • They Will Kill You
  • Goat

Beginning the following week, the theater will transition to its regular schedule of double features.

Additional films expected to screen during the summer season include:

  • The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
  • Michael
  • The Mandalorian & Grogu
  • Masters of the Universe
  • Minions & Monsters
  • Moana
  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day

“We are happy to be recognized for the Muskegon Chamber’s Excellence in Tourism award,” says Emily Loeks, Director of Community Affairs for Studio C. “Going to the drive-in is a summer tradition for lots of folks in West Michigan. Bring your camp chairs, hammocks and outdoor speakers when the weather is nice, and get ready for a memorable night at the movies!”

Gates open at 7:30 p.m., with the first film beginning shortly after sunset, around 8:15 p.m. The first 50 cars to arrive on opening night will receive a free Getty sticker.
